Additional Requirements for Juvenile Detention & Institutional Cases
To qualify, the case must involve abuse occurring within one of the listed juvenile detention
centers or institutions.
• Corroboration that the victim was at the institution is important but not required.
• The timeframe for when the abuse occurred and the victim’s age at the time must be
provided.
Who Qualifies?
The individual was abused before their 18th birthday.
• The abuse was sexual in nature (physical sexual abuse, assault, or molestation).
• The abuser must have had a role within an organization or institution and was acting
within the course and scope of that role at the time of the abuse.
• The following details must be provided:
◦ Location of abuse (e.g., facility name, institution, or private entity).
◦ Abuser’s affiliation with the organization.
◦ Abuser’s relationship to the victim.
• The abuser must be identifiable by name or at least a detailed physical description.
